A new approach to the military service of young people who scored 600+ points

According to the latest decision, young people who score more than 600 points in university entrance exams are envisaged to complete their compulsory military service in the intellectual units under the National Defense University. This approach serves both to ensure the efficient use of highly educated personnel and to strengthen the development of human resources in the army.

Military expert Uzeyir Jafarov, in a statement to Demokrat.az, said that the decision for young people in Azerbaijan who scored high that is, 600 and above in university entrance exams to serve in the intellectual units under the National Defense University of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan is a very good and smart step, and he welcomes it:

"This approach should not be limited only to the National Defense University. The State Border Service and the Internal Troops also have military schools, and they should also be provided with young people of high intellectual level. Conditions should also be created for them so that they can serve in those units. I believe that this approach will have a positive impact on providing the army with educated personnel and young people will be able to fulfill their service under normal conditions."

The expert noted that this would also help prevent the recurrence of some tragic incidents experienced in the past.

"For example, in the Nakhchivan Separate Combined Arms Army, ADA University graduate Jeyhun Huseynov, as a young person who had scored high points, lost his life. This incident later resulted in serious problems; the military unit commander and the head of the medical service were arrested, and the actions of the officials were given legal assessment. In the future, the implementation of this model will be successful for the army and should be expanded. This approach should be applied throughout the entire army and should not be limited only to the National Defense University of the Ministry of Defense, because other formations are also part of the armed forces. I am in favor of considering this process in a broader context," Uzeyir Jafarov said.
